Sprinter Roxana Gómez warms up the winter tour with another record

Nobody would dare to set the limits for Roxana Gómez after this Saturday she broke the Cuban record for the 400 meters on the indoor track, set from now on at 52.60 seconds, which assured her the second position in the test corresponding to the PSD Bank Indoor Athletics, held in the German city of Dortmund.

A few days ago, during another appointment scheduled in the winter season, the Cuban had seized the record of the specialty. She succeeded in the French city of Mondeville, where she was third with a record of 54.37 seconds, with which she erased the previous primacy held by Nancy Mcleon, since 1993.

The disciple of Ricardo Molina continues to show constant progress, since she starred in the celebrated classification for the Olympic final around the oval, at the event held last summer in Tokyo.

In what was her second experience in this type of competition -two laps of the 200 meter track-, Roxana was behind the Polish Justyna Swiele (52.10), but surpassed several rivals of recognized level, because in third place Belgian Cynthia Bolingo entered (52.61), ahead of British Ama Pipi (53.90), who had won the same test in Modeville.

“He ran much better. He is familiarizing himself with this type of track and complied with the strategy of starting stronger and making a faster first lap », Molina commented to JIT, excited because the fruits of the joint work are being seen.

With her most recent performance, the 23-year-old is outlining her possibilities in this specialty ahead of the Indoor World Championship, which will be held between March 15 and 18 in Belgrade, Serbia.

The actions of the Cubans on the day were completed by the long jumpers Maikel Massó and Lester Lescay, who began at the rally in the French city of Metz to warm up their engines heading to the universal event on the indoor track.

Massó, Olympic bronze medalist in the Japanese capital, now stretched up to 7.80 meters to finish in second place in the test, dominated with a record of 8.22 by the Greek Milziadi Tentoglou, monarch of Tokyo.

Massó got the best jump on his second attempt, just four centimeters ahead of the American JuVaughn Harrison. For his part, Lescay could barely reach 7.57 meters to anchor in sixth place.

«Massó did not comply in terms of the mark because he asked for eight meters, but I liked the way he competed. The strategy of making the six attempts progressively looking for his race rhythm and the accuracy in the take-off, “explained coach Daniel Osorio.

As for Lester, he specified that he is not at all happy with what he has done, and not only because of the mark that was lower than that required, he did not distribute his career well either: «And that is a crucial element for us, if that fails you do not get it the result even if you are very well physically, “he stressed.
