Valentine's Day: which regions of Peru have the highest and lowest number of marriages?

On the occasion of February 14, Valentine’s Day, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), reported between the months of January and September 2021, 47,749 civil marriages were registered online in Peru, according to the National Registry Identification and Civil Status (Reniec).

Which regions lead the number of weddings?

Between the months of January and September 2021, the regions of the country that report the highest number of marriages are:

  • In Metropolitan Lima (17,335) the largest number of marriages were registered, concentrating 36.3% of marriages at the national level-
  • Piura (2,780)
  • Freedom (2,643)
  • Arequipa (2,561)
  • Lambayeque (2,379)
  • Constitutional Province of Callao (2,118)

Which regions lead the number of weddings?

While, the departments of:

  • Mother of God (264)
  • Moquegua (298)
  • Huancavelica (310)
  • Tumbes (360)
  • pasco (375)

In Lima, which districts report the highest number of weddings?

At the district level, it can be seen that the largest number of marriages were registered in:

  • Santiago de Surco (1,227)
  • Callao (1,071)
  • lime (1,053)
  • tie (1,042)
  • San Juan de Lurigancho (1,005)

How many marriages were registered in 2020?

According to the information provided by Reniec, in the year 2020 44,450 marriages were registered civilians.

Of this total, 43,608 were registered online and 842 manually.

The largest number of marriages was recorded in Metropolitan Lima with 14 thousand 458 and represent 32.5% of the total registered throughout the country; followed by the Constitutional Province of Callao (4,748) and the departments of Piura (3,075), Lambayeque (2,616), La Libertad (2,214), Arequipa (2,163) and Loreto (1,658).

Meanwhile, the departments with the lowest number of registered marriages are: Mother of God (89), Huancavelica (175), Tumbes (267), Pasco (277) and Moquegua (286).

By district, the largest number of marriages were registered in the Callao (3,272), San Juan de Lurigancho (1,894), Lima (1,257), Miraflores (1,209), and Piura (1,126).

As of 2020, the rate of marriages celebrated in the country is 14 per 10,000 inhabitants. The departments with the highest rates are the Constitutional Province of Callao and Lambayeque with 42 and 20 marriages per 10,000 people, respectively.

Marry between 25 and 34 years of age

As of 2020, the majority of men and women who marry in the country are between 25 and 34 years of age. Thus, those between 25 and 29 years old total 10,067 people and those between 30 and 34 years old reach 9,596 people.

In February, the largest number of marriages were celebrated

According to the month of celebration of the nuptials registered online, 8,076 marriages took place in February, 7,418 in December, 5,379 in January, 5,008 in November, 4,640 in October, 3,461 in September, 2,893 in August, 2,629 in March and 1,891 in the month of July.

More single women than single men get married

When referring to the previous marital status of the spouses, it can be seen that more single women (95.1%) than single men (92.0%) contract marriage.

Meanwhile, divorced women and men who contract marriage they represent 4.3% and 6.7%, respectively; and widows or widowers 0.5 and 1.3%.

5,682 divorces in 2020

According to information provided by the RenieckIn 2020, 5,682 divorces were registered throughout the country. The departments with the highest number of divorces were Metropolitan Lima with 3,719, an amount that represents 65.5% of the divorces registered at the national level; they follow, the Constitutional Province of Callao (457), Freedom (209), Lambayeque Y Arequipa (159 in each case), Piura (140) and loretto (102 divorces).
