Russian training ship participated in the parade of the Naval Battle of the Lake

The Training Ship of the Russian Federation, Perekop, participated this Monday, July 24, in the Commemorative Parade of the 200th anniversary of the Naval Battle of Lake Maracaibo, in addition to celebrating the Day of the Bolivarian Navy.

The Russian ship arrived in the country on Sunday at Lake Maracaibo, one of its stops in the Caribbean, after visiting the ports of the Nicaraguan Naval Force.

The ship, belonging to the Baltic Fleet of the Russian Navy, traditionally has a crew made up of cadets from the naval military universities of St. Petersburg, Vladivostok and Baltiysk.

Through its social networks, the Bolivarian Navy welcomed the Perekop ship, before it graced the impressive air-naval parade that took place in Vereda del Lago.

This event had the participation of 23 floating units, and also had the participation of the Simón Bolívar School Ship.

On the other hand, the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduroinaugurated from La Vereda del Lago the Epic Bicentennial Monument “Naval Battle of Lake Maracaibo” located in the so-called Paseo Escultórico, to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the war that sealed the independence of Venezuela.

During the parade, Maduro highlighted that 200 years ago “Bolivarian Colombia” defeated the Spanish Armada, which was called the Unbeatable Armada of the European Empires.

“The liberation army took charge of a large land and sea operation that resulted in the Zulia campaign, the recovery of Zulia for the homeland,” he said.
