Sandinista police exposed: Presents a criminal gang as responsible for a Mayangna massacre, for which four indigenous people were convicted

This Friday, July 21, at a press conference, it was revealed that the Nicaraguan judicial authorities carried out a “spurious and false trial” against four Mayangna indigenous people for allegedly being responsible for the massacre that occurred in the Kiwakumbaih communityMayangna Sauni As territory jurisdiction, on August 23, 2021.

The National Police, controlled by the Daniel Ortega regime, was exposed after announcing that they had captured the leaders of the band of invaders “The Chabelos”whom they accused of being the main actors in several massacres perpetrated in the northern Caribbean of the country.

Subjects were identified as Rafael Mendoza Escoto, 33 years old; alias “Chabelo” and Darling Antonio Davila Escoto29, aka “Barrel.”

«On January 29, 2020, the leader Rafael Mendoza Escoto, alias «Chabelo», «Barril» and other members of the criminal group, attacked with firearms the inhabitants of the Mayangna Alal community, municipality of Bonanza; Mining Triangle, murdering 6 people and burning 15 shacks,” explained the senior commissioner, Victoriano Ruiz, deputy head of the Judicial Aid Directorate.

It also reported that the gang of criminals “the August 23, 2021on Cerro Pugna, Roca del Diablo, municipality of Bonanza, Triángulo Minero, they murdered 10 citizens of the Mayangna ethnic group, they also raped two women.”

Commissioner Ruiz also assured that “on March 11, 2023, in the Mayangna Wilu community, Bonanza municipality, Triángulo Minero, five citizens of the Mayangna ethnic group were murdered; Eddy Yesmin Jacobo Lázaro, Lenin Vílchez Flores, Jorge Enoc Palacios Samuel, Manuel Morgan Díaz Palacios and Alberto Castillo Palacio and set fire to 13 rustic houses and a Moravian church.”

For his part, the environmental defender and indigenous peoples, Amaru RuizHe maintained that these statements by the Ortega Police confirm what human rights organizations had denounced: that those responsible have always been the recently arrested criminals.

“The capture of the ringleaders shows that what was denounced has been true and that the cybercrime law that was applied to me is illegal,” Ruiz highlighted on his Twitter account.

Indigenous detained and unfairly accused

The indigenous people detained for allegedly participating in the massacre that occurred in the Kiwakumbaih communityon August 23, 2021, are the territorial trustee Ignacio Celso Linen; the communal judge of Suniwás Argüello Celso Linoand the rangers Dionysus Robins Zacarias and Donald Andres Brunowho remain incarcerated in the Jorge Navarro Penitentiary System, known as “La Modelo”.

On that occasion, the authorities blamed a group of 13 indigenous people, but only four managed to arrest them. Despite the fact that survivors of the attack pointed to a group of approximately thirty armed men, who spoke Spanish, dressed in military clothing and used high-calibre firearms, as being responsible for the crime, the police agents continued with the investigation against the community members.

The four indigenous people were accused of violating, torturing and sexually abusing eleven people during the massacre in the Kiwakumbaih community and on March 10, 2022, they were sentenced to life imprisonment for allegedly being co-authors of the crime of aggravated murder to the detriment of nine people.
