Cardinal Brenes: “The word of God will not prosper in a heart full of burned stone”

Cardinal Brenes: "The word of God will not prosper in a heart full of burned stone"

the cardinal Leopoldo Brenes, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Managua, based his homily, from the Metropolitan Cathedral, on the biblical parable of the sower, urging parishioners to “meditate” on what “ground the word of God has fallen.”

“The Lord is distributing the word, and how beautiful that he does not have a predilection, but rather he is throwing the seed and hopes that it can bear fruit (…) and there is the heart of each one of us, which is the ground where that seed falls” , said the hierarch.

He added “how beautiful it is” when the seed does not fall on the road, on stones or on thorns, but falls on fertile ground. «The sower leaves it and returns and sees how it goes up; and so is the word of God in our hearts».

«Christ the Lord sends his word to everyone, without any difference. We are the terrain, but we have to know what kind of terrain we are and how that word has fallen on us,” he said.

Referring to the current situation in which the Catholic Church is experiencing, the religious asserted that the word of God “will not prosper in hearts full of burned stone, because the message has fallen but has drowned and remains empty again, without God in the heart».

“Or perhaps we are a land full of thorns, that the word falls, it grows but there are internal reactions, we drown the word and make it totally disappear and Christ Jesus cannot live there because we discard it,” the cardinal stressed.

Referring to the “results of the word of God,” the archbishop urged us to meditate on the “fruits, after the seed has fallen in our hearts.” he at the same time referred that «the bad fruits can give intrigue, slander, defamation; it is a heart that is rotten, infected and that does not bear the fruits that Christ wants from us».

“We can have those —bad fruits— and call ourselves Catholics, so by the fruits we will know the good tree,” concluded the highest authority of the Catholic Church in Nicaragua, which has been attacked by the Daniel Ortega regime that calls itself “socialist, Christian and supportive”, but which keeps priests in prison and has accused the religious institution of money laundering.
