A 43-year-old man who lived on the street died on a cold Friday night after refusing to go to a shelterreported Underlined and confirmed The Observer with sources from the Ministry of Social Development (Mides).
The event occurred in the city of Melo in the department of Cerro Largo. The man was in Agustin de la Rosa and De Herrera streets.
As they said from the portfolio to The Observer, the Mides technical teams were in contact with the man at night, trying to convince him to go to a shelter but the man refused to go. Because of this, Mides asked him to sign that he had refused to go to the shelter.
The chief commissioner of Cerro Largo, Fernando Pedrozo told the local media, La Voz de Melo that at 03:00 they were called to let them know that the man had fallen near a service station. There he was transferred to a hospital where an attempt was made to save his life.
According to the police report, the station officials said they felt a blow and saw a person fall.
The man was drunk and from the portfolio the forensic expertise is expected to find out the causes of his death.
