The Dane published the results of the informal employment measurement for the last quarter of 2021, October-December, and the entity reported that the proportion of informal workers in the 13 cities and metropolitan areas was 46.8% for the quarter October – December 2021.

This implies a reduction of 1.3 percentage points (pps) compared to the informality rate for the same period in 2020 (48.1%), and 0.1 pps in relation to the immediately previous quarter (September-November 2021).

For the total of the 23 cities and metropolitan areas, the proportion of formally employed persons was 48%. In the same quarter of 2020, this proportion was 49%. At the national level, the total number of employed persons stood at 11.63 million, of which 6.04 million are formal and 5.58 million workers are in the informal sector.

In the 13 cities and metropolitan areas, which correspond to Bogotá, Medellín and the Aburrá Valley, Cali, Barranquilla, Bucaramanga, Manizales, Pasto, Pereira, Cúcuta, Ibagué, Montería, Cartagena and Villavicencio, there is a total of 10.48 million workers, of which 4.9 million are informal.
During the reference quarter, in the 13 cities and metropolitan areas, the proportion of employed men who were informal was 45.8%, which meant a decrease of 1.9 percentage points compared to the same period last year (47.7 %). For women, the proportion was 48%, while in the October-December 2020 quarter it was 48.5%.
