A judge denies suspending the arrest warrant against Javier Duarte for disappearances

The arrest warrant against Duarte for forced disappearance corresponds to a different case.

His lawyers can still appeal the resolution that denied him the definitive suspension, because two amparo lawsuits against the aforementioned order are still pending resolution.

The Eighth District Court of Amparo in Criminal Matters based in Mexico City was the one that refused to grant the definitive suspension to the former PRI president, who has been required by the Veracruz Attorney General’s Office since December 2021.

“Javier Duarte de Ochoa is denied the definitive suspension requested against the arrest warrant, appearance, location or presentation, as well as its execution,” refers to the judicial agreement published through the Federal Judiciary Council (CJF).

The former governor is involved in the discovery of the remains of 19 victims located in the municipality of Emiliano Zapata, in Veracruz.
