Sobella Mejías believes that the primary will be an opportunity to defend democracy

Sobella Mejías, former director of the CNE, believes that the candidates must consolidate a proposal that is inclusive and with social justice; same that must be built between all the living forces of the country

The former rector of the National Electoral Council (CNE) Sobella Mejías regretted on Monday, July 10, that in Venezuela it was not possible to defend the 40 years of democracy before 1999, so the primary election organized by a sector of the opposition provides an opportunity «defend it and participate massively».

Mejías believes that the primary represents an opportunity for Venezuelans to attend a civic event and choose their unitary candidate for the 2024 elections.

Interviewed in Radio Faith and Joy, Mejías believes that the candidates must consolidate a proposal that is inclusive; with growth, development, social justice and prosperity for the country, with which citizens can be attracted to participate en masse in the process. But for that, it is important that all the living forces of the country can come together around the construction of it.

Regarding the disqualifications of several candidates, the former CNE rector recalled that the regulations of the National Primary Commission (CP) establish that they can participate in the process even if they have been declared ineligible.

He added that the sovereign people are above the institutions and through that sovereignty, which resides in the people, is that this primary process has been organized.

The National Primary Commission (CP) reported on Monday, July 10 that closed the data update process for Venezuelans abroad through the web application, with a figure of 217,154 valid and successfully processed entries, so these voters will be able to vote in the primary election on October 22.

He indicated that in addition, another 96,921 cases remained in the validation queue and will be reviewed. He explained that these are citizens who uploaded their data and photographs, but at the end of the process they were in the validation stage before artificial intelligence and human verifiers.
