The president of the Republic, Nicolas Maduro together with the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Amor Mottley, signed this Saturday new cooperation agreements in various areas of binational interest.
From the Simón Bolívar Room in the Miraflores Palace, both Presidents signed strategic agreements on air services and agri-food sovereignty.
In this sense, the Agreement on Air Services between the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and Barbados, has the purpose of regulating the air transport service of passengers and cargo, between the territories of both countries, for purposes of the exploitation of these regular international services. by the airlines of both nations.
In this regard, Maduro reported that the air connection between the two nations is expected to begin in September. “Very soon we will have the possibility of having direct flights between Venezuela and Barbados, soon we will have the opportunity to expand tourism, to share and reconnect,” he announced.
The Agreement on Agri-Food Sovereignty will promote the development and implementation of scientific, technical and productive cooperation, through the joint execution of programs, projects and activities between the Parties, in the agri-food area.
Fundamentally, in the subsectors for the production of healthy and sufficient food, to contribute to the feeding of both peoples.
Likewise, both heads of state signed a joint declaration, in order to expand the map of strategic cooperation in the economic, industrial, scientific and technological fields.
The objective of this document is to establish a formal commitment to continue joint work in various areas of cooperation that reaffirm the ties of solidarity, brotherhood and cooperation for the greatest benefit of both peoples.
“We are motivated and satisfied with the good day today to create a set of issues for joint work between our countries,” said Maduro.
During the meeting, the Head of State stressed that, together with the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley, they agree on the need to “continue to unite more and more the ties of the Caribbean and Venezuela, to continue advancing firmly in the ties of the region” .
On the other hand, the Dignitary reiterated that Venezuela advocates the consolidation of new international relations. “A multipolar world where the global South has a strong united voice, where we can see the birth of a world of equals, without empires,” he said.
He thanked the leaders of the Caribbean Community (Caricom) for their strong statement in favor of lifting sanctions against Cuba and Venezuela.
Similarly, President Maduro asserted that Venezuela supports the Bridgetown Initiative, promoted by Barbados, which promotes reforms in the Bretton Woods agreements “that have proven to be completely exhausted.”
Rejection of unilateral sanctions against Venezuela
The Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley, rejected the imposition of illegal sanctions against Venezuela. “Venezuela has been the victim of the most horrendous sanctions that have ever been applied, this has generated a lot of damage in the country and in the ability to help the people,” she said.
“It does not escape our attention that your country (Venezuela) has been the victim of the most horrendous sanctions that have ever been applied to any country in the 20th century,” Mottley said, noting that “it has caused a lot of damage to your country, to your ability to help his people, like the rest of things in life. Big challenges bring out the best in our character and allow us to face the situation”.
He explained that, in this sense, it is necessary to advance as a team, when valuing the joint recognition in unionist instances such as the Caribbean Community (Caricom).
On the other hand, Mottley highlighted that the world is currently facing many crises, including the climate crisis, the pandemic, the insecurity of water, food, the fragility of war in many parts of the world and the digital divide, the “Which has become evident with the lack of education for almost three years for our children globally.”
The Prime Minister of the Caribbean nation emphasized that these battles cannot be won alone. “And we can’t do it, if we separate because of ideological differences, color or if we put people in squares or in circles,” she exemplified.
He evoked the independence of his country in November 1966, and the moment of the first speech at the United Nations Assembly (UN), in which the prime minister of his country told the world that Barbados should “be a friend of all, but nobody’s satellite”.

The national President presented the Order of Liberators and Liberators of Venezuela in its First Class to the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley.
After receiving this award, Mottley said that it means an honor for her to be in Caracas, while stressing that both countries have had a strong relationship for decades, which is why it is an honor to be here “because if there was a time when we had to work together, it’s right now.”

The Prime Minister arrived in the country this Saturday and was received by the Foreign Minister of Venezuela Yván Gil, hours later he met with the Executive Vice President, Delcy Rodríguez, in order to strengthen the unilateral relations between both nations.
