Yulimar Rojas was in the news again after setting a record in the Central American and Caribbean Games and, at the same time, qualifying for Paris 2024
The Venezuelan athlete Yulimar Rojas qualified on the night of Wednesday, July 5, for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games after completing a triple jump of 15.96 meters at the Central American and Caribbean Games; mark that also became a record of the sports event after displacing the 14.92 that the Colombian Carolina Ibarguen had.
Rojas got his pass to the Olympic joust in his first attempt. Then, in turns two, three and four, he didn’t set a mark until turn five, when he reached a distance of 15.02 meters. The record she achieved to qualify also represented the best world record of the year for the athlete.
The podium was completed by the Cubans Leyanis Pérez (14.98 meters) and Liadagmis Povea (14.85 meters).
Yulimar Rojas is the 2016, 2018 world champion and in 2022 she won the World Cup held in Eugene, Oregon, while aiming to revalidate that scepter in August, in Budapest, before heading to the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile.

On June 11, the “Wonder Woman” won the Iberdrola League in Madrid, with the best world mark so far this year, 14.96 meters. Four days later, she reached first place in her triple jump category at the fifth edition of the Diamond League, a title she is looking to retain.

Mairy Pires, her compatriot, finished in fifth position after registering 13.43 meters on her fifth attempt. Unfortunately, this will not be enough for her to be an Olympian, since the minimum record to qualify is 14.55.
With this medal, Rojas reaches his fourteenth gold medal at the professional level in all competitions and the fifteenth throughout his career.
Jesús Velásquez, Yulimar Rojas’ coach, told the circuit at the end of June Union Radio her concern about the poor condition of the alternate track of the Simón Bolívar Sports Complex in the city of Barcelona, where the athlete trained in her first steps in high performance sport.
Velásquez recalled the commitment made by the national government with the athletics facilities in Anzoátegui.
