Uruguay faces serious challenges due to lack of water in the capital

The Uruguayan environment minister, Robert Bouvier, issued an emergency call in the face of the serious drinking water crisis that is hitting the capital Montevideo, due to the fact that the reserves in the reservoirs are at a critical point.

The freshwater reservoirs that supply the capital could last until mid-July and be completely depleted, and the government is looking for a way to control the situation and not further compromise the lack of water.

If it does not rain in the next few days and the rate of water consumption is maintained, other forms of distribution will have to be used, such as the Rio de la Playa, although its waters are not for consumption but for other uses and the increase in the bottled water distribution.

Despite the fact that the Uruguayan Institute of Meteorology predicts rains in the coming weeks, everything indicates that they will not be relevant to change the situation of the reservoirs in the capital Montevideo.
