(EFE).- US federal agents detained 32 Cubans who arrived on Tuesday aboard a boat in the Florida Keys, in the extreme south of the state, reported the Border Patrol.
The patrol chief in the Miami sector, Walter Slosar, reported by Twitter that they received information about a group of immigrants who had made landfall early in the morning in Marathon, one of the keys located between the continental United States and Cuba.
The agents went to the place and were able to find 32 Cuban citizens, 27 of them men and 5 women.
Since last January, a program called a humanitarian ‘parole’ has been in force that allows Venezuelans, Cubans and Nicaraguans to obtain a temporary permit.
The new arrivals were subjected to a medical examination and placed in the custody of the US authorities for deportation purposes.
From 1995 to 2017, under the so-called wet foot/dry foot policy, Cubans who were captured at sea were returned to the island, but those who set foot on US land had the right to stay.
Since last January a program called parole humanitarian law that allows Venezuelans, Cubans and Nicaraguans to obtain a temporary residence and work permit if they have a sponsor in the US and meet other requirements.
