The municipal secretary of Public Works, Sergio Luna, asked the drivers to respect the detours, following the signs that have been installed in the area. He also gave details about the characteristics of the work.
He reported that the viaduct will have a length of 500.2 meters and contemplates two overpasses for circulation in both directions.
It will be 18 months of work by the Guaracachi Accidental Association, which was awarded the project for an amount of Bs 120.6 million.
In addition to the viaduct drainage, lighting, signaling and landscaping works are contemplated, which are included in the budget.
The Secretary of Public Works pointed out that The decision to close the central roads of the roundabout while the work lasts seeks to avoid damages in vehicular circulation and guarantee the safety of workers. To maintain traffic flow, alternate routes have been established that will allow drivers to access the area without major inconveniences.
For his part, Mayor Jhonny Fernández indicated that the viaduct will fundamentally solve the problem of vehicular chaos that enters from the north and east of the city, and that generates congestion in the Industrial Park area and its surroundings.
He stressed that it is the second viaduct that they are building in his administration. The first is almost 40 percent complete. at the Plan Tres Mil roundabout, which will then continue with the La Campana double track.
Fernández said that the work in the Virgin of Cotoca is a viaduct according to the needs that this sector of the city demands, for which all the investment that it demands has been considered.
“There is an investment budget of more than 120 million Bolivians and (civil works) construction will begin on July 10. This week we began to make the enclosure and its detour signage to access the fourth ring road, We will begin to make the movement of equipment and the enclosure inside the roundabout”, said the mayor.
He explained that the Ministry of Public Works and the Directorate of Traffic and Transportation will be in charge of the signage. At the moment they are working on socialization and a campaign on how they are going to make the detours.
The Secretary of Public Works stated that a detour plan was designed in order to disturb vehicular traffic as little as possible. This plan will be implemented in stages, in addition to considering the pavement of nearby streets and avenues, heavy traffic will be separated from light vehicles.
Among the surrounding roads that will be paved is the second lane of Canal Cotoca avenue, between the fourth and fifth rings, according to the Mayor’s plan.
Moon stressed that the work is necessary, considering the congestion generated at this intersection due to the high traffic flow, which translates into long lines and delays in travel times. In addition, there is wear and tear on the pavement, which is why potholes appear in the rainy season.
For his part, the drivers point out that these works are necessary, but they demand that there be good signaling and authorization of alternate routes.
