The US dropped drug trafficking charges against Alcalá

Clíver Alcalá, former General of Operation Gideon, would have pleaded guilty to misdemeanors “of helping a foreign terrorist organization.”

United States (US) federal prosecutors dropped drug charges
that weighed on ex-general Clíver Alcalá, who is a fugitive from justice.

It should be remembered that, Venezuela requested the extradition from Alcalá to be tried for the crimes of treason against the country; illicit trafficking in weapons of war, terrorism and association, committed during the organization of the so-called Operation Gideon that sought to remove President Nicolás Maduro from power.

According to the AP agency correspondent in Latin America, Joshua GoodmanAlcalá would have pleaded guilty to lesser crimes “of helping a terrorist organization
foreigner”.

“Federal prosecutors drop narcoterrorism charges against the former Venezuelan general Cliver Alcala.

Alcalá, who years later led an effort to overthrow @NicolasMaduro
with several American Green Berets, today he pleaded guilty to misdemeanors of aiding a foreign terrorist organization,” the journalist posted on his Twitter account.
