Police recapture and transfer to Managua the former Matagalpino politician Abdul Montoya Vivas

Three months have passed since the National Police recaptured the ex-guerrilla Abdul Montoya Vivas, 64 years old, and in view of this arbitrary situation, relatives of the political prisoner, who live in the United States, have expressed their concern for the opponent’s health and demand that the authorities provide more information on the conditions in which Montoya Vivas is found.

He suffers from hypertension, diabetes, “said a niece of the political prisoner in a video posted on the account of Twitter of the opposition leader Félix Maradiaga.

Likewise, another relative of Montoya indicated that “we hope for the speedy release of my uncle and of the other political prisoners who have been unjustly imprisoned under the Ortega-Murillo government.”

“We hope that with the voice of others, (the situation of political prisoners) can be expanded internationally so that justice is done for all of them,” he added.

For his part, Félix Maradiaga, a political prisoner in exile, explained that within the framework of the Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) and the activities that civil society has organized the voice has been raised based on Abdul Montoya and also of the other prisoners of conscience.

The ex-combatant was recaptured by the Ortega Police on April 3 in Jinotega and later transferred to Managua, within the framework of the Holy Week religious festivities.

Despite the fact that the Jinotega Prosecutor’s Office filed a legal proceeding against him, the prisoner of conscience has been held since last April 8 in the cells of District III of the Managua Police, waiting to be presented before a judge.

Three hearing attempts and Police do not present Montoya

The Ortega justice opened a process against Montoya Vivas for the alleged crime of “illegal possession of weapons” in Jinotega.

Abdul Montoya Vivas was recaptured by the Ortega Police on April 3.

For his part, Diana Isabel Jarquin Vallea judge of the Jinotega Local Criminal Court, demanded a “report to the corresponding authorities” on the case of the political prisoner, because the Police have not presented the accused and have not connected him via teleconference to hold a preliminary hearing.

According to the medium ConfidentialOn at least three occasions, the court has tried to hold a preliminary hearing against Abdul Montoya. The last one was on April 27.

“This is the third time that a preliminary hearing has been called. It has not been transferred, nor has it been connected to a videoconference for the holding of the respective hearing. Therefore, we are waiting for the respective report from the corresponding authority to hold the preliminary hearing, “Jarquín said in the minutes drawn up in the last hearing attempt.
