The Authority for Consumer Protection and Defense of Competition (Acodeco) has applied in 6 months of this year, 548 immediate fines for B/.234,500.00, to different economic agents throughout the country, due to non-compliance with price control of 18 products of the basic food basket.
For economic activities, the sanctions correspond to: convenience store, 342 for B/.104,750.00; supermarkets,77 (B/.86,562.50); grocery stores, 70 (B/.18,375.00); warehouses, 8 (B/.8,937.50); kiosks, 29 (B/.7,375.00); consumer cooperatives, 8 (B/.3,750.00); public markets, 8 (B/.2,000.00); pharmacies,1 (B/.1,500.00); others, 5 fines for B/.1,250.00.
It should be remembered that through Executive Decree No. 1 of January 18, 2023, the National Government extended for another six months the maximum retail prices of 18 food products in the basic basket, which are (prices in B/ .):
- Bone-in strip steak. (pound 2.55; kilogram 5.62).
- stifle (lb 2.99; kg 6.60).
- Prime ground beef (excludes special kosher and low-fat). (lb 2.15; kg 4.74).
- Whole Panama chicken (with legs and head). (lb 1.18; kg 2.60).
- First class rice (all presentations). (lb 0.40; kg 0.88).
- Lower 2nd grade quality lentils. (lb B/.0.81; kg 1.79).
- Vegetable palm or soybean oil in a container of 1.42 to 1.5 liters. (each 3.74).
- Macaroni (spaghetti) in a 425-454 gram package, excludes sizes other than 3 to 5, whole grains, and carrot and spinach flavors. (0.63)
- Elbows 454 grams. (0.69)
- Tuna in water, pieces, 170 gram can. (1.31).
- Sardine in tomato sauce, without spicy, 155 gram can. (0.51).
- Powdered milk (whole, instant with a content of 345 to 400 grams), excludes dairy foods, growth milks and infant formulas. (3.76).
- White sliced bread, 14-18 ounce package (excludes whole grain, oat, rye, multigrain, egg, milk, butter, raisin, light). (0.92).
- Michita bread, white. (lb 1.40; kg 3.08).
- Processed American-type yellow cheese (with a curd content of less than 65%, excludes light varieties, with peppers, etc.). (lb 3.00; kg 6.61; individual slice 0.10 each).
- National mortadella with pepper (packaged) 454 grams. (lb 3.24; kg 7.15).
- National sausage, frankfurter, packed 454 grams. (lb 2.14; kg 4.72).
- Sausages containing beef (includes those sold loose or in 1-pound packages; excludes imported frankfurters, smoked, cocktail, light, jumbo, gluten-free, Angus, kosher, low sodium, with cheese). (lb 1.19; kg 2.62).
