The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, reported through his Twitter account that Colombia and Venezuela signed a declaration of Cooperation on Friday for the search for missing persons on the border between the two countries in the hands of the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (AUC). .
The signature was made in the same act in the foreign ministers of both nations formalized the installation of the Neighborhood and Integration Commission in the San Carlos Palace, in the city of Bogotá.
“The governments of Colombia and Venezuela signed a Declaration of Cooperation for the search for missing persons in the border territory of Colombia and Venezuela in the hands of the AUC, following the declarations of the paramilitary commander Salvatore Mancuso”, published the Venezuelan Foreign Minister on the social network, Gil published on his Twitter account along with a video of the act of signing the the declaration.
Colombia and Venezuela: 2,219 kilometers of border
During his speech, the Venezuelan foreign minister highlighted the ties of brotherhood, history and shared struggle that unite these nations, reported a press release.
“Venezuela and Colombia sharing the same history, the same sacrifice, such a long border of 2,219 kilometers; a significant border population of Colombian and Venezuelan citizens, a Colombian-Venezuelan citizenship. We are bound by the unity commitment to work together, but also by reality,” Gil said.
“Colombia and Venezuela we come from episodes that cannot be repeated. A break is inconceivable when we share a history and a long border. This Neighborhood and Integration Commission addresses economic, social and cultural aspects, and the normalization of the border ”, Foreign Minister Gil published in this regard on his Twitter account.
For his part, Colombian Foreign Minister Álvaro Leyva expressed his satisfaction at the relaunch of diplomatic relations between these nations. “Today we return to good neighborliness, to integration. Put that mistake behind you,” he added.
