Cristo Redentor Pass: until when will the international pass be closed?

He Christ the Redeemer International Pass, which connects Argentina and Chile, has been closed since June 21 due to bad weather conditions, especially on the Chilean side. A strong storm has caused landslides, large rocks and flooding, which has caused significant damage to the road. Cristian Aravena Reyes, Provincial Presidential Delegate of Los Andes, has reported that, although tests have been carried out with cargo trucks and the route would hold momentarily up to Guardia Vieja, there are places such as kilometer 88 where it is impossible to travel due to rockfalls and sinkholes. .

As indicated by Highways, it is expected that El Paso will be enabled after July 7. However, this term could be extended, since additional works will be required to fully prepare the route and allow the transit of cargo vehicles. At kilometer 60, for example, there are sinkholes that complicate the situation, and it is necessary to work in an area close to the river, which adds complexity to the repair tasks.
