The pharmaceutical industry reported that the generic medicines market continues to contribute a greater share to the market, increasing unit sales by 13%
The Venezuelan pharmaceutical industry reported a 6.19% increase in the consumption of medicines from January to May, which is equivalent to 77 million units, that is, 4.5 million more compared to the same period in 2022.
Of the total reported increase, the national production industry represents 78%, which is equivalent to 3.5 million units of the total market growth. The report highlighted that the increase in availability is maintained with more than 7,500 presentations of active medicines, which represents 4% above the same period of the previous year.

Likewise, in relation to the generic medicines market, the industry reported that it “continues to contribute to the performance of the total pharmaceutical market with a growth of 13% (29.5 million units)” during the period.
He stressed that the contribution of the market for generic drugs produced in the country is 80% (2.7 million units) of market growth.
Regarding reduced content presentations, the pharmaceutical industry said that they remain an option for accessibility to the drug and represent 34% (13 million units) of the total market.
Another of the growths reported by the sector is in exclusive medicines for various pathologies, among which the following stand out: 31% for heart diseases (9.9 million units), 16% in contraceptives (1.7 million units), 14% for diseases associated with pain (9.1 million units), 3% for medicines for urinary diseases (4.7 million units) and 8% for diseases associated with the nervous system (9.9 million units).
