The NGO Animalist Platform (PA) questioned Senator Sebastián Da Silvawho this Friday, June 30, presented a bill that aims to prohibit laboratory or artificial meats from being imported or produced locally and marketed in Uruguayin defense of the local production of natural meat obtained from cattle, sheep, pigs and birds, mainly.
“One of the causes of climate change is livestock. In addition, the consumption of water is enormous. Incredible how Senator Da Silva continues to demonstrate that It is everything that does harm to the planet and to non-human animals and also humans”, expressed the PA.
Da Silva, who in addition to being a legislator is in charge of various agrifood production systems, in livestock, agriculture and the farm, responded: “Radical animalists attacking the national interest”.
Radical animalists attacking the national interest.
Uruguay is the agricultural country of the world, no matter how much it weighs on them.
And no matter how much it hits us, we will continue to defend it. And in that defense we will continue caring for the environment https://t.co/kHcNteAFZS—Sebastian Da Silva (@camboue) July 1, 2023
The questioning of the PA was not the only one. Also based on the note published this Friday in The Observer Economist Pablo Rosselli said that banning artificial or laboratory meat is “like banning looms to protect weavers.”
A project that has the potential to harm consumers and simultaneously to exclude the Uruguayan meat complex from a technological development whose future cannot be stopped by Uruguay. ?♂️?♂️?♂️
