With 51 votes in favor, 7 abstentions and 5 against, Deputy Jaime Vargas was elected president of the National Assembly for this fifth regular session.
The Democratic Revolutionary Party nominated Vargas for the presidency, while Cambio Democrático opted for Rony Araúz who got 7 votes and the independent bench nominated Juan Diego Vásquez who obtained 5 votes.
They will accompany Vargas, the deputy Ricardo Torres in the first vice presidency and Corina Cano in the second vice presidency.
