The Disciplinary Committee of the Confederation sanctioned the Nicaraguan National Team for committing a “gross violation” of the applicable FIFA/Concacaf regulations by fielding an ineligible player in eight National Team matches, including the 2022/2023 Concacaf Nations League (CNL) matches.
The Confederation of North America, Central America and the Caribbean Football (Concacaf) reiterates that Nicaragua will be relegated to League B of the CNL 2023/24.
The Blue and White National Teamwhich for the fourth time in its history had qualified to participate in the Gold Cup, one of the highest regional level soccer events, was sanctioned and excluded from the event that begins in its group stage on June 24.
The foreign player ineligible to play wearing the blue and white uniform is the Uruguayan nationalized Nicaraguan Richard Rodríguez, who had not met all the nationality requirements to integrate the Nicaraguan team and, nevertheless, was fielded in eight international matches.
