the researcher Martha Patricia Molina warned that Monsignor Rolando Alvareza prisoner of conscience of the Nicaraguan dictatorship, could “not be in good health” after spending more than 300 days under “kidnapping”, and asked the world to put more pressure on the regime to stop religious persecution in the country.

Today Monsignor Álvarez celebrates 324 days of being isolated and incommunicado by the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo. Molina warned on Twitter that, “due to the habit of the Nicaraguan Penitentiary System of physically and psychologically torturing the kidnapped, he fears that monsignor is not well».

In turn, the author of the report “Nicaragua: A Persecuted Church” asked the international community to demand that the Sandinista dictatorship immediately release the prelate and cease the persecution against the Catholic Church.

The event, convened by the organization Raza e Igualdad and the Legal Defense Unit (UDJ), was held simultaneously with the meeting of the Organization of American States (OAS), where the countries that make up the organization discussed a new resolution on the situation in Nicaragua.

During his presentation, Molina explained that the Catholic Church has been the victim of 529 attacks carried out by the Sandinista dictatorship from April 2018 to March 2023.

Among the attacks, he mentioned the arbitrary closure of Catholic organizations, universities and media; repression of religious; hostilities against the Holy See and repression of secular activities.

About him Bishop Rolando José Álvarez remembered that has not been seen since March 27, 2023. On that date, the regime exhibited it to the official media under pressure from a strong demand from various voices that asked for a “proof of life” of the religious leader.

Likewise, Molina recalled that Ortega and Murillo also have prisoners three other priests in a prison where more than 38 torture mechanisms are practiced.
