The President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro, participated today (11) in the ceremony for hiring people with disabilities (PwD) for Caixa Econômica Federal. The bank called 992 people for the position of banking technician, approved in a contest held in October last year.
With the new employees, Caixa now has around 4,400 people with disabilities on its staff, fulfilling the Law 8.213/91 which determines that companies with 100 or more employees have between 2% and 5% of their vacancies filled by workers with disabilities.
“When we took over there were only around 1,200 people with disabilities,” said Caixa’s president, Pedro Guimarães. “Traveling through Brazil, on the second trip, still in January 2019, in Manaus, a PwD employee asked me why Caixa does not respect the law, which says that 5% of employees have to be PwD”, he recalled.
Guimarães also said that in 2019 Caixa carried out a first call for people with disabilities approved in a previous contest still in force. He said he was proud of the new hires, of which 700 people have already started work.
Among the functions to be performed by new employees are administrative ones, such as reporting and progressing processes, writing correspondence, providing customer service and the public and operating computers, terminals and other equipment.
“When we go through the agencies, people with disabilities are usually the ones who serve in a special way, because they spent their whole lives being, many times, marginalized”, he said.
During the badge-giving ceremony for new employees, Bolsonaro said that, sometimes, to make legislation work, you have to put yourself in someone else’s shoes.
“It is not just because something is on paper that it will be fulfilled. It takes will, we often need to put ourselves on the other side of the counter”, said the president, also remembering another government measure, which sanctioned the law that extends the exemption from the Tax on Industrialized Products (IPI) for taxi drivers and people. with disabilities.
the sanction of Law 5,149 of 2020published in December last year, extends tax exemption on car purchases of up to 2,000 cc by professional drivers, such as taxi drivers and app drivers, and for people with severe or profound physical, visual, hearing and mental disabilities and people with autism spectrum disorder.
The chairman of the board of the National Volunteer Incentive Program, Pátria Voluntária, integrated into the Ministry of Citizenship, First Lady Michele Bolsonaro, said she hoped that other institutions would also comply with what is provided for in the legislation.
“My dream is to see other institutions with the same mission of transforming our country into a more inclusive country. The great challenge remains, we need to break down prejudices, change our views, accept others as a capable, determined Brazilian and not as someone limited,” he said.
