The former ambassador of Nicaragua to the Organization of American States (OAS), Arthur McFieldsaffirmed that after “overcoming the impasse” in the proposed resolution on Nicaragua, everything is ready for it to be approved “without major complications” on the last day of the 53rd General Assembly of the organization.
“The controversial and conflicting points have been overcome, which was the alternative text proposal that the Brazilian delegation had presented —which had to do with— the issue of human rights, confiscations, persecution of the Catholic Church and the need for the OAS and the IACHR to continue with their sights on Nicaragua,” the former diplomat stressed to Article 66.

He appreciated that although this resolution “is not perfect, it is extraordinary that in Latin America they are convinced that what there is in Nicaragua is” a pure and hard dictatorship.
Regarding the de facto departure of Nicaragua from the Organization, McFields said that “Ortega has forgotten about the OAS but the OAS is not going to forget about Ortega, since he is going to continue on the radar.”
He also highlighted the “slamming of the door” that the president of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, he gave to his counterpart, by not supporting him “and telling him that he is not going to join in a madness that he had initially proposed and rather acknowledged the violations of human rights, the confiscations, the forced exile.”

Faced with a possible “fissure between Lula and Ortega”, the opponent pointed out that “no greater thing is expected” because currently both leaders have not had a relationship like the one they had in Lula’s first and second terms.”
“Although it is a historic relationship – between Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Daniel Ortega – it is not going through its best moment,” stressed the former ambassador, who added that the Nicaraguan dictator is not interested in breaking relations with his Brazilian counterpart.
“Very difficult mediation by Lula for Ortega to release Monsignor Álvarez”
Referring to the recent statements by the president of Brazil, who assured that he will advocate for the Nicaraguan regime to release Monsignor Rolando Álvarez, McFields indicated that this seems “very difficult but not impossible”, because he assures that Daniel Ortega has not opened up to no position that has been made to get the bishop of Matagalpa out of jail.
He also remarked that “this is an issue that they -the dictators Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo- handle with a position of hatred towards the Catholic Church, in addition to political revenge, which transcends all logic because no one in Latin America is imprisoning bishops ».
It is expected that in the afternoon of this Friday, June 21, the resolution on Nicaragua will be approved, urging, once again, the Daniel Ortega regime to cease the repression in Nicaragua and release the prisoners politicians.
