The National Assembly (AN) approved this Thursday – unanimously – the draft Agreement to commemorate the 197th Anniversary of the Installation of the Amphictyonic Congress of Panama, on June 22, 1826.
The project was presented by the deputy to the AN, Rudy Puerta, who highlighted the importance and validity of this historical fact.
The agreement proposes to develop plans and programs on the importance and historical relevance for Venezuela and Latin America of the Amphictyonic Congress of Panama.
In this sense, the parliamentarian stated that the installation of this congress “marked a milestone in libertarian history and in the emancipation of the peoples of our continent.”
In the same way, he stressed that it was a fundamental point for the integrationist banners promoted by the Liberator Simón Bolívar.
This fact, said Puerta, is “reflected in the determination of President Nicolás Maduro and the Bolivarian Government to promote peace diplomacy and multilateralism for the fair and balanced development of the peoples of Latin America.”
For his part, the deputy of the opposition bench, Alfonso Campos, stated that the ideology of the Panamanian Congress is currently reflected in the South American Union of Nations (UNASUR) which, however, is receiving the same attacks that the historical feat suffered at the time.
