Currently, people who are unemployed have the possibility of receiving financial aid, but it is necessary to comply with certain requirements to be able to access it. During the month of June, and throughout the year, those who are unemployed will be able to access benefits by presenting certain information related to their employment situation and other relevant data.
One of the benefits available to the unemployed is the Unemployment insurance. The main objective of this benefit is to protect workers affiliated with the Unemployment Fund Administrator (AFC) in the event of being laid off for voluntary or involuntary reasons, either by resignation or dismissal. To access this insurance, it is necessary to meet the following requirements:
- Be affiliated with AFC Chile.
- Being unemployed and having a contract regulated by the Labor Code, by the Statute of Public Education Assistants or being a worker in a private home.
- Possess a Chilean national identity card.
In addition, to qualify for the benefits of the unemployment insurance, the affiliate must prove his dismissal through legal documents such as the settlement, dismissal letter or resignation letter, among others. It is also necessary to have a minimum of contributions from the date of affiliation or from the last payment registered in the Individual Unemployment Account, depending on the type of employment contract.
Another benefit available to unemployed workers, in addition to the unemployment insurance, is the Unemployment Subsidy. This subsidy allows access to an economic contribution for a maximum of 360 days. Upon receiving this subsidy, the beneficiaries are entitled to free medical assistance, family allowances, death allowance, among others.
This benefit is granted for renewable periods of 90 days, as long as it is proven that the person continues to be unemployed, up to a maximum of 360 days. It is important to bear in mind that the Unemployment Subsidy is incompatible with the Unemployment insurance.
