The National Institute of Aquatic Spaces (INEA) issued a statement prohibiting the departure of small vessels from the country’s coasts due to the proximity of tropical storm Bret, starting this June 22.
The letter states that “in relation to the movement of tropical storm “Bret” over the Caribbean Sea area, it was determined at 11:00 am today, Wednesday June 21, that the aforementioned storm is located approximately 410 nautical miles (760 km) east of the island of Barbados and 644 nautical miles (1,192 km) east of Güiria. Likewise, it is located at 13.0° north and 52.5° west. It presents a west direction (at 280°) towards the Caribbean Sea, with a speed of 12 knots, (22 km/h)”.

In addition, it reports that by Sunday it will be to the west of the Los Monjes Archipelago and will be generating maximum sustained winds of 51 knots, (95 km/h) with intensity of strong intervals of gusty winds.
It was known that the tropical storm winds extend from its center to 51 nautical miles (95 km), generating large waves of 2.4 to 3.6 meters in height in the northern quadrant, and moderate to high southern quadrant of 1.8 to 3.0 meters tall.
