Panamanian delegation participates in the OAS Assembly

Panama begins its participation in the Fifty-third Regular Session of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), which will be held in the city of Washington DC, from June 21 to 23, 2023.

The delegation of Panama is chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Janaina Tewaney Mencomo, and made up of: the Minister of Social Development, María Inés Castillo, the Minister of Women, Juana Herrera Araúz and the Ambassador María del Carmen Roquebert, Permanent Representative before the OAS.

The agenda includes dialogues between the Member States of the organization with the Observer States, with the Secretary General and between the Heads of Delegation, as well as meetings to strengthen bilateral relations with the Member States.

Within the framework of the Assembly, the approval of a declaration in honor of Jimmy Carter’s legacy in promoting Human Rights and Democracy in the Americas is expected.

On the other hand, the agenda contemplates a ministerial meeting of the Summit Implementation Review Group (SIRG) at the ministerial level to review the commitments of the Summit of the Americas. The SIRG is the main executing body of the Summits of the Americas Process and provides follow-up on the progress made in fulfilling the Summit mandates.
