(EUROPA PRESS) – The governments of China and Cuba are already in negotiations for the construction of a joint facility in which to train soldiers, according to the Wall Street Journal, a possible basis that would add to the misgivings raised by the United States authorities as a result of the alleged existence of a Chinese espionage center on the Island.
Negotiations for the new base are already well advanced, according to US sources quoted by the newspaper. If confirmed, this type of infrastructure would facilitate the permanent presence of Chinese troops in Cuba and the possible expansion of intelligence activities, which Beijing has already denied.
This Tuesday, as a result of the latest information, the spokeswoman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Mao Ning, has limited herself to saying that she was not aware of the issue, which arises just one day after the conclusion of a symbolic visit to Beijing by the secretary of State of the United States, Antony Blinken, theoretically to iron out differences between the two powers.
Blinken met with the main authorities of the Asian giant, including the president, Xi Jinping, after a few months marked by cross political reproaches, mainly on account of the alleged presence of Chinese spy balloons in the sky of the United States.
However, neither Beijing nor Havana recognize for now the rapprochement attributed to them from Washington. To the Chinese refusal about the alleged spy center was also added that of the Cuban government, which branded the information as “slander” and accused the US authorities of trying to destabilize the island.
