Space for dialogue proposes unity and blockade of external financing to weaken Ortega

A group of personalities and opposition leaders in exile propose a route that consists of three stages and several steps to overthrow Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo from power and start a process of rebuilding democracy and the search for justice for the victims of the repression.

The strategy called «Political Project for the Democratic Transition and the Day After in Nicaragua» released this Sunday, June 18, raises as a priority the unity of the opposition under a recognized and unique leadership. What is the proposal? Article 66 participated in the virtual event to launch the plan and these are the details:

First stage

Called “strategy to get out of the dictatorship” it proposes six steps to achieve that goal. Step 1: Constitution of an alliance or bloc of pro-democracy and freedom with justice forces to lead the way out of the crisis and the transition to democracy. At this stage they intend to carry out a “weakening of the bases of the regime”, beginning by influencing a reduction in the economic, military and repressive power of the dictatorship “through institutional sanctions and the blocking of external financing.”

Insist on the execution of «the democratic clauses of the Free Trade Agreements (FTA). diplomatic isolation. Expand the alliance with civil society actors (religious, academic, economic) in the world. Reverse the support of the sectors of big capital that still support the regime. According to opponents, they intend to provoke an “explosion with implosion” in the regime, articulating forces within the country with those in exile.

Step 2: Installation of the Self-Convoked Work Table “We Are All Nicaragua”. Step 3: Strengthen civic resistance within Nicaragua and open spaces for those who want to defect from the ranks of Sandinismo. Step 4: Promote the social cohesion of the pro-democracy forces and freedoms with justice. Step 5: Promotion of Universal Justice and Step 6: International Pressure.

Second stage

He proposes executing a strategy to overcome the socioeconomic emergency and democratic breakdown in which the country will remain after the fall of the dictatorship.

Prepare a “Framework Law for the Democratic Transition and Coping with the Crisis”. Immediate release of political prisoners. Restoration of the essential framework of fundamental rights and freedoms. Restructuring of the powers of the State on a constitutional basis. Repeal of Law 840 and all laws that infringe human rights. Restructuring of national security institutions (Army and Police) and subordinate them to civil power.

Transitional justice for lasting peace human rights: political, economic, social, environmental and cultural; human security. Inclusion of historically excluded sectors, promotion of rights and eradication of violence

third stage

In the third stage, called “National Project for a lasting peace (development model) as a proposal for consecutive democratic governments”, the opposition grouped in the Space for Dialogue and Confluence urges a “new social contract in April and the election of a legitimate government. To this end, they plan to restore democratic order and take care of the transition towards “non-repetition”, and implement “transitional justice for lasting peace”.
