Resignation of CNE rectors occurs in a “complicated context”, says Electoral Observatory

Last Thursday, June 15, eight principal and alternate rectors of the National Electoral Council (CNE) made their positions available to the National Assembly. The Venezuelan Electoral Observatory highlighted that “these surprising decisions do not make clear what are the reasons or the purposes behind them, so it is not a good message that is being sent to society, with a view to future elections.”


The Venezuelan Electoral Observatory (OEV) stated that the resignation of eight rectors of the CNE occurred “in a complicated political context,” and stressed that “these surprising decisions do not make clear what are the reasons or the purposes behind them,” therefore that it considers that the one that is sent to Venezuelan society is not a good message, with a view to future electoral events”, because it gives rise to doubts and speculation.

Through a statement, the Venezuelan Electoral Observatory He assured that said actions “are questionable from a legal point of view, by ignoring several provisions of the Organic Law of Electoral Power.”

It highlights that the facts could compromise, from its birth, the legitimacy of a new CNE, “undermining the much-needed citizen confidence in the Electoral Power for the new cycle that should begin next year with the presidential election.”

Last Thursday, eight principal and alternate rectors of the National Electoral Council (CNE) made their positions available to the National Assembly.

They expressed that it was “to contribute to the purpose of Venezuela heading towards economic prosperity and political and social stability from which it was illegally diverted.”

The communiqué also indicates that, “that same day the ordinary session of the AN, with similar speed, addressed as the second item on the agenda: “Acceptance of the resignation of the principal and alternate rectors of the National Electoral Council (CNE) and appointment of the Preliminary Commission of the Electoral Nominations Committee…”.

Finally, the OEV maintains that it will continue to monitor future events to point out possible irregularities and demand compliance with the legislation, in order to protect the necessary citizen confidence in our electoral system and the right to vote as a democratic, constitutional and peaceful resolution mechanism. of conflicts in Venezuela, ends the statement.
