The President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, announced on Friday that the Graf Spee eagle will be transformed into a dove.
This Saturday the senator of Open Town Hall, Guido Manini Rios, affirmed that he will present a bill to “prevent the destruction of the Graf Spee’s eagle”, and to form a commission of specialists to decide on the fate of the piece.
“Cultural heritage must be taken care of and cannot be left at the mercy of the will of a hierarch”he wrote on his Twitter account.
This commission “should have members of the Heritage Commission, the National Historical Museum, the University of the Republic and other institutions, and will also include representatives of the Executive and Legislative branches,” he added.
