Venezuelan opposition will hold primaries without the CNE

The Venezuelan opposition reported this Friday that they will hold their primaries without the technical support of the National Electoral Council (CNE), elections scheduled for October 22, a decision that was made after, this Thursday, three of the five main rectors of the entity electoral resign their position.

“We will move forward with the organization of a self-managed primary,” the president of the National Primary Commission (CNP), Jesús María Casal, said at a press conference, adding that the commitment “remains intact.”

“The only way to organize the self-managed primary is with a high cooperation of all political and social factors. Obviously, a self-managed primary on the backs of 10 members of the CNP is not possible. The only way is with a participation, a commitment from society”, reiterated the leader.

He assured that the published schedule is “compatible” with the execution of primaries without technical assistance from the CNE, and that they will comply with the objective that the inmates be held on October 22, as planned.

Casal explained that they will define with the candidates the economic aspects of this process, and that the CNP technicians “are prepared for the organization of a manual primary”, highlights EFE.
