This Friday, June 16, the Preliminary Commission made up of 11 deputies of the 2020 National Assembly was installed, which will define the Nominations Committee for the election of new rectors and alternates of the National Electoral Council (CNE).
The first meeting of the Preliminary Commission made up of Giuseppe Alessandrello, Desireé Santos Amaral, José Gregorio Correa, Cilia Flores, Nosliw Rodríguez, Didalco Bolívar, José Villarroel García, Luis Augusto Romero, Miguel Salazar, Ricardo Sanchez, and Gloria Castillo Duran.
Deputy Giuseppe Alessandrello announced that next Monday, June 19,and will make the call to the applications to fill the vacant positions of rectors and substitutes of the Electoral Power.
“This Preliminary Commission has the task of transitioning to the Electoral Nominations Committee. We must remember the functions, including calling for applications, receiving them, evaluating them and finally selecting a list of eligible citizens and presenting it to the National Assembly, which in plenary will finally decide who will be the rectors of the Electoral Power,” he said. Deputy José Gregorio Correa stressed -for his part- that “our obligation as the National Assembly is to give the citizen the greatest security that they will have some rectors who can collaborate, contribute to the reunion of the citizen in the vote, to rediscover the citizen in the center electoral, that the only way we can settle our differences is with a polling station. That we can think in one way or that we can think in another, but that we must understand that we have only one country.
He added that “today we have a Committee that will later take us to the selection in the Commission of the rectors (of the CNE) and this Committee thinks differently, each one thinks differently and the only interest we have is Venezuela.”
The AN elected in 2020 accepted this Thursday, June 15, the resignations of eight rectors of the CNE and appointed a commission to choose the 11 deputies that will make up the new electoral nominations committee. Said instance must work “quickly” to appoint the five main rectors and the 10 alternate rectors, demanded Jorge Rodríguez, president of parliament.
Besides, Pedro Calzadilla, president of the CNE, ratified that after the decision to resign from the Electoral power by the group of eight rectors, the board of directors will remain in their positions until the AN elected in 2020 chooses the new authorities.
