Cuba: Perpetrator of three robberies with violence sentenced to 17 years in prison

MADRID, Spain.- The Provincial Court of Havana sentenced a Cuban accused of three crimes of robbery with violence or intimidation committed at the end of 2022 to 17 years in prison, according to what was announced this Thursday by the official site of the Government of Havanaciting Mauro Torres’ page 2.0′, a Facebook profile linked to State Security.

The source of the information was a relative of one of the victims, who did not want to reveal his identity, “but showed evidence regarding the oral and public trial, which took place a few days ago in the Third Criminal Chamber of the aforementioned court.”

The criminal, who carried a knife to intimidate people, committed the three robberies in the vicinity of Calle 114, between Autopista and the José Antonio Echeverría University City (CUJAE), in the capital’s municipality of Marianao.

The note specifies that an AVA brand motorcycle of 1000, money, cell phone and other belongings of the victims were stolen.

Among the numerous facts that reflect the wave of violence that Cuba is experiencing, this week it was revealed the murder of Papo Maraña, a Cuban resident in the Havana town of Santiago de las Vegas. Papo Maraña was stabbed to death by criminals who entered his home to steal.

Also in recent days it was news that a young man who worked as a security officer at the door of a bar-restaurant in San Antonio de los Baños (Artemisa) was murdered.

Added to a large number of events like these, so far this year a total of 40 femicides have been confirmed on the island.

However, the official media Granma, official organ of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), published this Wednesday a text denying the rise in crime in the country and blamed the independent press for spreading false news on the subject.
