The president of the National Assembly (AN), Jorge Rodríguez, described this Thursday the arbitrary detention in Cape Verde of the Venezuelan diplomat Alex Saab as a “vile kidnapping”.
“What happened in Cape Verde (with Alex Saab) was a vile kidnapping. He was kidnapped in Cape Verde, he was physically and psychologically tortured,” Rodríguez expressed during his participation in the regular session of the AN.
“It was a real and vulgar kidnapping. A double kidnapping, because he was illegally kidnapped in the United States,” he added.
In this regard, he highlighted the expressions of solidarity to “demand the freedom of a man who did nothing other than fulfill the function of helping the human being, of helping Venezuelans in one of the most difficult moments in the history of the Republic ”.
“That was what Alex Saab was looking for, shoveling the tremendous situation that the North American empire had imposed on us, that is why all acts of solidarity are insufficient, all expressions must be made and everyone must shout Free Alex Saab,” he added.
In this sense, he highlighted the holding of the forum Lawfare against Venezuela three years after the kidnapping of Alex Saab, which took place at the Teresa Carreño Theater, Caracas.
In that forum – explained Rodríguez – all the jurists recognized the flagrant violations of international rights with the kidnapping of Saab.

During the session, the deputy for the National Assembly (AN), Ilenia Medina, presented the Draft Agreement in support of the immediate release of Venezuelan diplomat Alex Saab.
This, after completing three years of his arbitrary and illegal detention.
In his speech, Medina indicated that with this fact, the country’s immunity from jurisdiction is violated.
He recalled that what Cape Verde and later the United States did, “are ignoring all those international regulations that began after the Second World War.”
“The jurisdiction of immunity was unknown, a diplomat is the representative of the republic, of the president elected by our people, that is why the crimes are beyond, there is a lack of knowledge of international law and the Charter of the United Nations,” he added.
In this sense, he called on the nations of the world not to repeat this action.
“We must make a call to all the states of the world, to all the countries, because violating immunity generates a dangerous file. They are ignoring the immunity of all countries, including the US, ”she concluded.
After the approval of the Draft Agreement, it was delivered by the president of the Parliament, Jorge Rodríguez to the wife of Alex Saab, Camila Fabripresent at the session along with other special guests.
