After clashes between university students and members of the Police during protests in front of the University of Panama (UP), on the Transístmica highway, the rector of this house of higher education, Eduardo Flores denounced the excessive use of force by the units riot
Flores said that thousands of students, administrators and teachers have been collectively affected.
He denounced that the amount of tear gas thrown inside the university campus, indiscriminately, affected the children who go to the CAIPI of the University of Panama.
“The deployment of the bombs has been such that they have broken windows of classrooms and laboratories, as well as the windows of teachers’ cars,” he said.
Through videos disseminated on social networks, it is observed how the police throw tear gas bombs into the UP, one even shows a uniformed man with one foot inside the University, a fact that is prohibited.
In addition to his complaint against the police, the rector indicated that they will carry out the investigations to vigorously sanction the three hooded persons who affected the door of the rectory.
“We will make the fight for a better budget and in defense of autonomy effective with the Peaceful March that we will carry out next Wednesday, June 21. We will leave from the Simón Bolívar Library to the Ministry of Economy and Finance, at 10:00 a.m. », he revealed.
We demand a budget in line with the expectations and the noble mission of the University of Panama and we reaffirm the defense and respect for our autonomy!
Precisely the protest this Thursday occurred due to the low budget that was given to the UP and in opposition to the contract with Minera Panama.
