The Ombudsman, alfredo ruiz, and the representative of United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) In Venezuela, Abubacar Sultan, They met to establish educational and training strategies for the good treatment of Boys, Girls and Adolescents and each other, in order to eradicate violence against this population group with their leading participation.
This Work Plan for the years 2023 and 2024, It is part of the agreement that has been developed since 2015 within the framework of the Country Plan, through which the Ombudsman’s Office strengthens its promotion, defense and surveillance actions regarding the protection of Children and Adolescents.
Likewise, UNICEF and the Ombudsman’s Office have carried out joint work for several years to inspect and monitor Protection Entities, Protection Councils and Socio-educational Entities for Adolescents in Conflict with the Criminal Law.
The United Nations Children’s Fund has supported the National Human Rights Institution at a technical and financial level during these years, to carry out said training, monitoring and supervision activities.
This new plan signed by the Ombudsman with Unicef will last 18 months.
- The fundamental areas of action include:
- The promotion and dissemination of police action when it involves Boys, Girls and Adolescents.
- Prevention of trafficking and comprehensive assistance to victims, especially aimed at Boys, Girls and Adolescents.
- Prevention of violence against Children and Adolescents.
- Prevention of family separation in the migratory context.
- Criminal responsibility of adolescents.
- The protection system for Boys, Girls and Adolescents.
This program will not only be put into practice in the capital city, but will also be implemented at the national level and will come into force this very day.
Faced with constant harassment by foreign governments through unilateral coercive measures, for the Venezuelan State, the Ombudsman’s Office and the United Nations Children’s Fund, give absolute priority to Children and Adolescents and the comprehensive protection of their rights.
