Cuba and Iran sign cooperation agreements in politics, telecommunications and justice

(EFE).- Havana and Tehran signed cooperation agreements on foreign policy, telecommunications and justice on Thursday during the key day of the visit to Cuba of Iranian President Ebrahím Raisí.

The signing ceremony took place at the Palace of the Revolution, with the presence of Raisí and his Cuban counterpart, Miguel Díaz-Canel, after the participation of the Iranian president in a business forum organized in parallel in Havana.

The two countries signed a total of six agreements, among which the one on comprehensive cooperation between governments, the one on political consultations between Foreign Ministries and the one on cooperation in telecommunications, information technology and portable information and services stand out.

In addition, they signed two memorandums of understanding on customs matters and another between the respective Ministries of Justice.

Díaz-Canel referred to the “unity” between the two countries, “condemned” for confronting the United States, and advocated “taking advantage of potentialities” and “expanding” relations in the commercial and economic fields on the “base” of ” mutual respect” and “friendship”.

Raisí arrived in Havana this Wednesday, the last leg of his tour of Latin America, which took him first to Caracas and then to Managua. Raisí’s entourage was integrated, among others, by the ministers of Oil, Health, Culture and Economic Diplomacy.

In Nicaragua, he met with President Daniel Ortega and stated that Tehran wants to “increase and deepen our relations” with that Central American country “in all areas: political, economic, cultural, in all spheres, especially in matters of science and technology”.

The previous Iranian president, Hasan Rohaní (2013-2021), visited Cuba in September 2016, where he met with the then president, Raúl Castro, with whom he signed a memorandum for cooperation in health matters, and with Fidel Castro, deceased. at the end of that year.
