MIAMI, United States. – The newspaper Granmathe official organ of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), denied the increase in crime on the island and blamed the independent press for spreading false news on the subject.

In a text published this Wednesday, the official media denounced “the fabrication, from the virtual space, of an alleged scenario of instability, mistrust and insecurity is increasingly prioritized in the subversive plans of the enemy”, whose objective is to “discredit the Cuba’s international prestige as a safe tourist destination, to hit one of the main economic sources of the country”.

According to the state newspaper, behind these efforts is the hand of the empire, that is: the United States government.

“The same empire that denied us life-saving oxygen during COVID-19, and fueled the violent street riots of the summer of 2021, along with the same terrorist mob it has paid for for over six decades, is now proposing to fabricate an unreal and long-awaited world, through false news, misrepresentation, manipulation and permanent aggression with supposed facts or situations in the virtual space, to denigrate the pillars and revolutionary conquests, including citizen security and internal order, as well as against those who defend it,” the article states.

For Granma“Cuba’s crime indicators have nothing to do with global crime and delinquency behaviors or trends.”

“According to the Global Crime Trends Report-Interpol 2022, transnational crime and criminal networks are evolving at an unprecedented rate around the world, with many rampant manifestations. Five areas dominate the landscape of crime threats on a global scale: terrorism, illicit trafficking (drugs, migrants and human trafficking), organized crime, cybercrime (internet scams) and financial crimes or corruption. , add the text.

The official media also reports that “no country escapes the impact of transnational crime” and that “Cuba’s records are significantly lower in all areas.”

In that sense, Granma He specified that “the forces of the Ministry of the Interior in charge of preventing, confronting crime and guaranteeing citizen tranquility are not sitting idle.”

Official figures published by the newspaper show that so far this year “11,500 actions to prevent and combat crime have been carried out so far in 2023, in which more than 12,000 individuals were accused of being commissioners of various criminal modalities, being placed before the courts those involved in acts of greater seriousness and connotation”.

Regarding the work of the MININT in the fight against crime, the newspaper indicated: “Our people recognize this and feel safe with the presence of the forces of order, whom they support and respect for their human character, humility and dedication to service. public”.

Granma He also argued that, contrary to what is being shown on social networks and alternative media, in Cuba “There is no passivity or impunity” against crime.

“The violent acts that have occurred and are shamelessly magnified or manipulated by enemy digital sites constitute 8.5% of the total crimes registered so far this year, and 60% of the perpetrators were arrested and charged. However, in cases where people are killed or firearms are used, the clarification levels are higher than 90%. The confrontation system is active 24 hours a day, and does not rest until the perpetrators are cleared up, arrested, and prosecuted, with the people’s leading participation,” the article points out.
