Ecuador celebrated this Wednesday the world record in weightlifting of the lifter Angie Palacios Dajomes (71 kg) in the Grand Prix tournament that takes place in Havana.
After learning that Palacios reached the world record in the category by lifting 121 kilos in the snatch, social networks exploded with messages of admiration.

The athlete broke her own Pan American record in the clean and jerk with 140 kilograms, for a total of 261 kilograms, which earned her three gold medals at the Havana Grand Prix.

“Angie Palacios has just set a new world record in the snatch of the 71 kg category, lifting 121 kg,” the Ecuadorian Olympic Committee (COE) said on Twitter.
“He also breaks his own Pan-American record and takes first place in the modality at the Grand Prix of Havana, Cuba, an Olympic qualifier for Paris 2024,” added the COE.
Ecuadorian President Guillermo Lasso also thanked Palacios for the feat of a “strong, disciplined and courageous woman.”
“Today you give us Ecuadorians great news that fills our hearts with pride, gold medal! and World Record in 121kg! ”, added Lasso in his message.

Angie Palacios is the sister of Neisi Dajomes, the first Ecuadorian woman to win an Olympic gold medal during the weightlifting competitions of the Tokyo 2021 Games, in the 75-kilogram category.
This year he won a bronze in the Pan American Weightlifting Championship that took place at the end of March in Bariloche, Argentina.
For the first time, Cuba is organizing an Olympic weightlifting qualifier as the venue for the discipline’s Grand Prix, which brings together 272 participants from 58 countries at the Pabexpo fairgrounds. It will extend until the coming 18.
