Chamber of Commerce of Colón shows its rejection of projects for the extraction of underwater sand

Angel Valdes | June 14, 2023

The president of the Chamber of Commerce of Colón, Michael Chen, referred in an interview with Radio Panama, to the statement issued where they are against the underwater sand extraction projects in the province.

«We found out about different projects for the extraction of underwater sand from the coasts of the province of Colón, this worries us a lot, because the Costa Arriba is a tourist place that needs that sand to develop its economic activities, what’s more, if it starts to extract the underwater sand we are going to have a great loss of biodiversity, flora, fauna and the greatest impact will be on the people of the Costa Arriba and that is why the Chamber of Commerce shows its resounding and forceful rejection of these three underwater sand mining projects,” Chen said.
