The little champions of the XLVII National Children’s Baseball Tournament 2023 visited the Palacio de Las Garzas where they were received by the President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, in the Yellow Room. The new champions, the Veraguas team, emerged victorious when facing the Coclé team in a final full of enthusiasm.
President Cortizo Cohen gave each player a gift in recognition of the work done and the effort put into their training to win the championship. In turn, the children delivered a ball signed by all of them.
Alan Rodríguez, representing the players, thanked them for the experience of getting to know the Palacio de las Garzas and for having received them personally.
Meanwhile, the President said he felt honored to be in front of champions and motivated them to feel like winners at all times, he also urged parents to continue supporting their children to achieve their dreams.
The ninth from Veraguas will represent Panama in the Little League World Series to be played in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, from August 16 to 27 of this year. This series is attended by 20 teams and the team that represents Panama will have its debut on Wednesday, August 16, against Europe, Africa at 12 noon.
If they win this first match, they would then face Latin America on August 18 at 12 noon. Last year, with the Coclé team, was the first time that Panama participated as a Region, next year it will have to be eliminated in Latin America.
The Little League World Series, better known as Williamsport, is the top baseball tournament for boys between the ages of 11 and 12.
The team’s coaching staff was present on this visit, headed by its director Oliver De Gracia; representatives of the Club Activo 20-30, with Rogelio Fuentes, President of the Club in Santiago, and the players.
The president was accompanied by the Governor of the Province of Veraguas, Manuel Castillo Melamed; the Director of Pandeportes, Luis Denis Arce and Luis Cruz, deputy of the National Assembly.
