MADRID, Spain.- The Cubalex Legal Information Center demanded from the Cuban regime proof of life of the political prisoner and leader of the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU), José Daniel Ferrer, who has been incommunicado for three months in the Mar Verde prison, in Santiago de Cuba.
During all this time, his family has not heard from him, as the prison authorities forbid him from making phone calls or visiting the prison.
“Since March 7, he has been in a regime of forced solitary confinement in the Mar Verde prison in Santiago de Cuba, deprived of contact with the outside world,” Cubalex said in a publication by Facebook, where he also recalled that prolonged isolation as punishment “is a widely known tactic to undermine the physical and psychological integrity of prisoners of conscience. This practice violates international human rights standards, including the Mandela Rules.”
Likewise, in a release where it states that the situation of the activist “is alarming and requires urgent action”, and addressed to organizations defending human rights, the media and citizens committed to justice and freedom of the international community, the NGO expressed: “It is It is imperative that the competent authorities act immediately and provide reliable evidence of the life and well-being of José Daniel Ferrer. His family has been denied visitation rights, granting him just 11 during more than a year of unfair arbitrary confinement. His wife, his friends and the international community are deeply concerned about his health, well-being and the possibility that his life may run danger “.

Demands from Cubalex to the Cuban Government
- Immediately provide proof of life for José Daniel Ferrer through a communication in which he can express his current state and well-being.
- Guarantee the immediate end of the forced solitary confinement and allow regular contact with his family, lawyers and representatives of human rights organizations.
- Respect and protect the fundamental rights of José Daniel Ferrer, including his right to physical and mental integrity, as well as his right to a fair and impartial trial.
- Thoroughly and transparently investigate any complaint of human rights violations committed against José Daniel Ferrer, and bring those responsible to justice.
In addition to his relativesother organizations like International Amnesty they have kept demanding faith of life.
“For 82 days, the political leader José Daniel Ferrer has been held incommunicado in prison. José Daniel Ferrer is one of hundreds of Díaz-Canel prisoners of conscience in Cuba. We demand his immediate and unconditional release!” Amnesty International Director for the Americas Erika Guevara Rosas said last Wednesday.
José Daniel Ferrer, promoter of Cuba Decide and president of the People’s Party, was arrested on July 11, 2021 (11J) when he was preparing to join the popular demonstrations. They transferred him to a cell in the Versalles torture center, and at the beginning of August they sent him from there to the Mar Verde prison, where he has been since then and without a trial date.
