Parents denounce a 100% increase in monthly fees for private schools in Caracas

Fausto Romeo, vice president of the National Association of Private Educational Institutes (Andyep)indicated that the schools registered in this entity are going to have to increase to cover their operating expenses, which, without a doubt, have risen due to the increase in public services, such as sanitary landfill, water and electricity

Parents and representatives of boys and girls in different school stages denounced that for the period 2023-2024 the private schools want to raise 75% or plus the monthly payment, which would represent a significant increase in their family budget.

Some of those affected by the situation are representatives of the San Martín, Santo Tomás de Aquino schools and the Lucrecia García preschool, located in Los Caobos. These institutions plan increase your monthly payments by 75%, 100% and 122.22%.

Stefania Uzcátegui, the mother of a first-year student at Colegio San Martín, located on Avenida San Martín, indicated that it is the second time that the institution raises the cost of the monthly payment by 100%the previous opportunity was in 2022-2023 when it was increased from 20 to 40 dollars, whereas now they want to take it to 80 dollars.

He stressed that for this increase four proposals were presented, but none is profitable for your pocket. He commented that the tricky thing about this increase is that it is not being done through a Assembly of Parents and Representatives face-to-face but through an electronic vote, which they mistrust because they don’t know how many parents actually supported the measure.

Likewise, Marisela Pérez, representative of a first-year girl at the Santo Tomás de Aquino School in Campo Alegre, denounced that the institution presented budgets that do not correspond to actual expenses or that they are even charged with clauses that do not apply or that their children cannot enjoy, such as satellite internet that neither she nor her daughter can enjoy.

«Ignorance of the items and the calculations because they never detail what each item has in itself. For example, many times they say equipment maintenance, but what equipment? And so it is with everything, that is, It is a very general name when in accounting there is a detail of the account,” said Rep. Perez.
