The President of Iran arrives in Nicaragua

The president of Iran, Ebrahim Raisí, landed this Tuesday at the Augusto C. Sandino International Airport, in Managua, where he was received with honors by a delegation headed by the chancellor Nicaraguan, Denis Moncada.

The visit to Nicaragua It is the second stop of the Iranian president on his tour of Latin Americawhich also includes Venezuela and Cuba.

Raisí arrived accompanied by his wife, Jamileh Alamolhoda, as well as a large delegation from his country, made up of the ministers of Oil, Health, Culture, and Economic Diplomacy, among others.

Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega is scheduled to receive Raisí this Tuesday.

Ortega’s wife and Nicaraguan vice president, Rosario Murillo, announced the day before that the meeting between the two leaders would take place this Tuesday afternoon.

The Nicaraguan vice president announced that they will sign agreements and then offer statements.

On Wednesday, the Iranian president will attend the headquarters of the National Assembly (Parliament), according to Murillo.

The Iranian president is immersed in a tour of Latin America, which includes Venezuela, Nicaragua and Cuba, to strengthen relations with these “friendly countries” in economic, political and scientific matters.

Raisí began the Latin American tour on Sunday. This is his first trip to Latin America. since he took office in August 2021. Until now he had focused on visits to strengthen relations with Iran’s neighbors.

Iran maintains close ties with Venezuela, Nicaragua and Cuba, cemented by their mutual opposition to the United States.

Relations between Iran and Nicaragua have been very close since the Sandinista Daniel Ortega returned to power in January 2007.

Ortega is one of Iran’s main allies in Latin America and has endorsed Iran’s nuclear program and asked Israel to “disarm” to avoid a war.

Last February, the governments of both countries signed a memorandum on cooperation and public consultations in Managua, during the visit of Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian to the Central American country.​​​
