The workers of the Siderúrgica del Orinoco (Sidor) continued on Monday, June 12, a strike that began on June 7 to demand compliance with their labor rights. On the sixth day of the protest, they faced a picket line from the Bolivarian National Police (PNB) to gain entry to the company’s facilities.
Videos of the confrontation between workers and the GNB picket deployed at the entrance to Gate I of the company were disseminated on social networks. Civilians had to push their way in, crashing into the shields of police officers.
In front of the blocked gate, the Sidorists recalled their demands and the motivation for the strike that began almost a week ago. They demand better wages and respect for their benefits, but also compliance with their rights in the face of the various authoritarian abuses they have experienced, such as unjustified dismissals.
Added to today’s protest is the rejection of the unjustified detention of three union leaders who have participated in the protests, the workers Leonardo Azócar Daniel Romero and Juan Cabrera.
«We are not going back until we have a positive response. One of the things is the release of our union leader, also that the workers be respected and that they do not continue to intimidate people,” stressed one of the protesters.

In addition to the PNB, there were also officials from the Bolívar State Police (PEB) and members of the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB) inside the company’s facilities. The presence of these bodies seeks to prevent new workers from joining the protest within the company.
