At least 300 private almendrones line up this Monday at the El Futuro gas station, located on Calle 100 and Vento, in the Havana municipality of Rancho Boyeros. In that service center, which as of today sells diesel exclusively for private carriers, the Police were calling three by three from a list where they had all been written down in order of arrival.
Some of the drivers, who had run out of fuel while waiting, were already pushing their vehicle past him in line.

This measure coincides with the entry into force of the new rates for private taxisannounced last week and that have caused annoyance between the drivers. According to a note published in Havana Tribune, the established prices will be obligatory between five in the morning and nine at night. Outside of those hours, say the authorities, “the rates will be by agreement between the client and the carrier (supply and demand).”
The official newspaper includes in detail the different routes and prices provided. The short sections are fixed at 45 pesos, the medium ones between 70 and 100, and the longer routes, such as the one from Guanabo beach to Old Havana, are bumped into in 170.
People on the street and in different workplaces no longer even complain about prices, but rather about the lack of transportation. A young veterinarian said this Monday: “Let the taxi charge me what it has to charge me, but stop me, because the problem is that there is none.” The young woman had to pay 2,000 pesos for a direct car for a journey of 12 kilometers.
